The chair of the Geothermal IWG, Gerdi Breembroek, presented opportunities and case studies of Geothermal heat for industry during the Cooperation across SET Plan Implementation Working Groups (IWGs) workshop on Strategic Energy Technology for Industry in the EU, organised by the SET Plan IWG6 (Sustainable and efficient energy use in Industry) Secretariat.

It was highlighted that low to medium temperatures form a significant part of the industrial demand and can be covered by geothermal energy – locally, 24/7, and independent of seasons. The presentation also showcases some successful operating industrial uses of geothermal heat and future projects.
